fires like this that two santa rosa firehouses have reopened full time. firehouse 11 opened up in time to save the life of a man this week. >> was not breathing and didn't have a heart rate and they delivered him to the hospital with a pulse. >> firehouse 11 on lewis road have been browned out since 2009. nearby homeowner says she now has a full time fully staffed fire station. >> we live up just the road and we have almost a acre. it's getting hot. with little ones you get nervous. it's nice to know we have firefighters, more of them here. >> the two firehouses were victims of bad economic times. deputy chief says they worked out a plan to keep the area covered. >> the station was browned out and station 10 was opened. when ten was browned out, station 11 was open. >> the sacrifice was helped by a fema grant. it allowed the department to hire 14 knew firefighters. >> the fema grant runs out in two years but firefighters say they and the still will come up with the necessary funds to make sure that changes are permanent. >> ama: stay with us for continuing coverage. we will have update

yesterday. yes, we're more than 20 degrees cooler in concord and novato. mid 60s up toward santa rosa. the window is the story. most of the bay area seeing south winds 15 to 30 miles an hour. this helped to bring in more moisture, it feels a little muggy outside throughout much of the day today. that's good news where fire danger concerned. winds coming in onshore. too much wind giving us a wind advisory for parts of san jose mainly off to the south out toward los gatos and down the san mateo county coastline. some wind gusts in parts of the south bay could still get up to close to 45 miles per hour. most of the moisture has moved onto txe north, but the system responsible hasn't gone anywhere sitting right here off to the west around our area of low pressure. this is going to continue to keep the winds going tonight and toss a few more hours our way. as this low traction closer to the coast going into tomorrow and tuesday, we're going to get the combination of some cooler air aloft, daytime heating and more moisture coming in. so we will see more showers tomorrow afternoon than we sa

this morning santa rosa fire stations are staffing for red flag conditions, including stations of that been partially closed over the past two years. the "santa rosa press democrat" reports $2.6 million in federal grant money will staff station 10 in southwest santa rosa and station 11 year santa rosa junior college. also nine new recruits will help man those two stations every day. a reopening ceremony and open house is planned for 11:00 this morning. >>> berkeley city officials are calling for a halt to the sale of berkeley's historic post office. the postal service has approved the sale of the downtown berkeley building as part of a series of cutbacks to reduce costs and generate revenue. nearly 3500 post offices across the u.s. have been slated for closure or sale. opponents fear it's only the beginning. >> this is ridiculous. it will lead to the privatization of a constitutionally mandated, basic public service in this country. >> berkeley mayor, tom base, and other elected officials signed a letter to the postal service calling for a moratorium on the sale of all historic post offices

in santa rosa. >> evacuations are lifted in ventura county were the springs fire is burning. the fire sparked on thursday near camarillo and has grown to 28-thousand acres. it is currently 60 percent contained and firefighters expect to get full containment by tomorrow. these are pictures of the aftermath of the fire. it has destroyed fifteen homes and 45 other structures. more than two-thousand firefighters have helped put out the flames. including fire crews from here in the bay area. the cause of the fire is under investigation. fire crews put out a two- alarm fire at a home on treasure island this morning. the fire was reported just before four a-m. this two-story townhouse was fully engulfed when crews arrived. the fire was contained to the home. it was controled within half-an-hour. one person was home at the time of the fire but officials say he was not injured. unfortunately a house cat did not make it and animal control was called to the scene. the fire remains under investigation. aneast bay family is homeless this morning after flames burned their san ramon home. it started
